France’s Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) and the University of Arizona had worked together targeting critical climate, water, and social justice issues, but in 2023 the University’s President Robert Robbins and the head of the CNRS, Antoine Petit, took the bold step to begin strategically sharing scientific resources in an effort to address our planet’s most pressing climate and sustainability challenges. Red and blue, shared by the identities of both principals, became common ground for the Institute’s new identity with a rollout planned as new projects are announced.
