Black and white. Sometimes it is a clue to budgetary or technological limitations. And at other times it can alert the viewer to the veracity of historical content — lending a documentary quality. The monochrome palette can also convey a luxe sensibility that enriches the visual experience. And finally, hard-edged black and white graphics deliver visual impact like no others can. Supplemented with the most minute touches of color, utilitarian black-and-white presentations become the easiest paths for eyes to follow through masses of typographic content.
